Every Castle Arts set includes a 5 or 6 step tutorial, guiding you through the colors and techniques used to create the image used on the respective packaging. The guide teaches you how to take care of your pencils, from sharpening methods to holding your pencil to achieve different styles and effects. It explains the color pencil range, light and form, pencil pressures and strokes, blending, layering and texturing techniques as well as more tutorials, a glossary and details about joining the Castle Club.

The pencils are exactly the same - the rigid tin is perfect for home studio use whereas the travel zipper gives you more options and portability. They work very well on dark papers and yes, they work well on wood and can be sealed with varnish afterwards. It depends on the skin tone you are after, but there is a wide selection in both 72 and 120 sets. In the 72 set, there are three grays, one white and a black. In the 120 set, there are six grays, one white and a black. Yes, they layer really well and are very blendable and creamy with or without a blender, adding real usability to your art kit.
